Ca’ Foscari University of Venice

Renzo Cavalieri is Associate Professor of Comparative Private Law at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

He is Of Counsel at the law firm Bonelli Erede, with expertise in international commercial law, Chinese and East Asian law, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, relations with legislative and regulatory bodies in East Asia, and inbound/outbound transactions between Italy and China.

He was an Associate Professor of Comparative Law at the Department of Law of the University of Pavia from 1993 to 1999; an Aggregate Professor of Comparative Politics at the Department of Economics of Bocconi University in Milan from 1999 to 2003; an Associate Professor of Law of African and Asian Countries and Comparative Legal Systems at the Department of Law of the University of Lecce from 2000 to 2006; and since 2007, an Associate Professor of Comparative Law and Law of East Asian Countries at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. He has participated in international symposia and lectured at various universities and professional organizations both in Italy and abroad.

He served as Secretary General of the Italian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Milan from 1989 to 1993; Of Counsel at the law firm “Pavia e Ansaldo” in Milan from 1995 to 2005; Of Counsel at the law firm “Agnoli Bernardi e Associati” in Milan from 2005 to 2008; and since 2008, Of Counsel at the law firm “Bonelli Erede Pappalardo” in Milan. Professionally, he has been actively involved in various aspects of Italian-Chinese trade, providing legal assistance to numerous major companies in their investment projects and joint venture initiatives in China and other East Asian countries.

Since 1991, he has advised the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on various aspects of Italian-Chinese cultural and political relations, particularly as a national expert designated for several sessions of the EU-China Human Rights Dialogue (1999, 2001, 2007, 2008).

Additionally, he is a Former Professorial Research Associate at the Centre of Chinese Studies of the School of Oriental and African Studies (London); Vice President of the Italy-China Chamber of Commerce; Mediator at CCPIT (Beijing); Senior Academician of the Ambrosian Academy; Board Member of the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Southeast Asia; and Director of the Scientific Committee of the journal “Mondo Cinese”.
