Luisa M. Paternicò
History of Sinology and of Italy-China Relations

Luisa Maria Paternicò is Professor of Chinese Language and Literature at the University of Naples L’Orientale.
She obtained her PhD in Civilizations, cultures and societies of Asia and Africa at Sapienza University of Rome. Currently, she is a faculty member in the Department of Asian, African and Mediterranean of the University of Naples L’Orientale, where she teaches Chinese Language I, II (Bachelor degree), Chinese Language and Culture I (Master degree).
She is also Program coordinator for the Degree Course in Oriental and African Languages and President of the Area Council for Asian and African Studies. She spent several periods of study and work in China between 1999 and 2009. She was a Visiting Scholar at Boston University in 2022.
Her research interests include history of sinology and of Italy-China relations, history of Chinese linguistics and of Chinese language teaching, together with didactics of modern Chinese language.
