Marco Di Tommaso

Marco Rodolfo Di Tommaso is Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Bologna.

He is the Director of the National University Center for Applied Economics (CiMET), a Life-Member Fellow of Clare Hall College at Cambridge University, an Honorary Professor at the South China University of Technology and the South China Normal University, as well as a BASC Senior Research Affiliate at the University of California, Berkeley.

He is a member of the International Advisory Team of the University of Cambridge, UK – Babbage Policy Network, and a member of the Council Board of the International Initiative for Promoting Political Economy (IIPPE). He is the Editor-in-Chief of “L’industria – Rivista di economia e Politica industriale”, published by Il Mulino; an Associate Editor of “Competition and Change”; and a member of the Editorial Board of “Business and Politics”.

He studied in Italy (Bologna and Naples) and the United Kingdom (Manchester). He has been a Visiting Professor in the United Kingdom (Cambridge), China (SCUT – South China University of Technology), and the United States (UCLA – University of California, Los Angeles).

His research focuses on international industry, industrial and innovation policy, development and structural change, political economy, transition and sustainability, and industry and economy between Italy/Europe and America. He has paid particular attention to the Chinese economy and industry; the healthcare industry; SMEs, clusters, and local development.

He has collaborated with Italian and foreign universities, specialized research centers, and international institutions (UNIDO, CEPAL, UNDP, United Nations, OECD), as well as with national and local governments. He has promoted and coordinated research projects in partnership with international networks of academics, universities, and institutions. He has actively participated in the scientific community debate by presenting his work at seminars, workshops, and conferences both in Italy and abroad. His writings have been disseminated and presented nationally and internationally: he is the author and co-author of several books and about 150 scientific articles.
