The Evolution of the Master in Global Management for China

The story of an interdisciplinary and international path of excellence created to train the leaders of the future in doing business with China.

An evolving Master’s program designed to train professionals capable of meeting the challenges of doing business with China.

The Master GMC has undergone significant evolution and transformation over its various editions hosted in a rotating manner by the five Main Partners’ universities, adapting to the changing needs of the global market and educational conditions. Since its inception, the Master has aimed to provide high-quality interdisciplinary education with a strategic focus on the Chinese market, preparing future professionals to face the challenges of international business.

2013 – 2018

After the first edition at the University of Roma Tre, the Master GMC was hosted by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice for the subsequent years.

Originally established as a second-level university master’s program, it was later transformed into a first-level university master’s program.

Students had the opportunity to attend a Chinese language course, divided into two levels and managed by the Confucius Institute, along with a business English course.

These courses, along with a series of practical activities and expert testimonials, ensured students were well-prepared to face the challenges of the global market and seize opportunities offered by China.

2018 – 2021

During these years, the Master GMC was hosted by the University of Macerata, which managed the editions of the academic years 2018/2019 (5th edition), 2019/2020 (6th edition), and 2020/2021 (7th edition).

The first edition was conducted entirely in person, offering a direct and immersive learning experience. The second edition started in person but was adapted to an online mode due to the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating great adaptability.

The third edition followed a hybrid format, with predominantly online classes enriched by some in-person sessions, not exceeding 15 days.

During these editions, students participated in numerous significant activities, such as two weeks of studying Chinese for business at Beijing Normal University, and company visits to iGuzzini and Concerie del Chienti. Additionally, they had the opportunity to listen to testimonials from entrepreneurs and operators in China and interact with notable figures such as former ambassadors to the PRC Ettore Sequi and Alberto Bradanini, former president and vice president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China Davide Cucino and Guido Giacconi.

2021 – Present

In recent years, the GMC Master has been hosted by the University of Naples L’Orientale, managing the editions of the academic years 2021/2022 (8th edition), 2022/2023 (9th edition), and 2023/2024 (10th edition), and this University will host the fourth edition in 2025/2026 (11th edition). These editions were conducted mainly online, with one week of in-person classes at the University of Naples L’Orientale and the Roma Tre University at the beginning of the academic activities to foster acquaintance among participants. Students had the opportunity to attend a Chinese language course managed by the Confucius Institute and Shanghai International Studies University (SISU).

During these editions, students attended a workday at the Città della Scienza, where the program of activities coordinated by Città della Scienza with the People’s Republic of China was presented. This includes regional events like the Sino-Italian Exchange Event and national events like the China-Italy Innovation Forum, both organized during the Italy-China Week of Science, Technology, and Innovation, aimed at internationalizing research and innovation systems. Students also visited the Nola Interport, gaining valuable practical knowledge about logistics operations. Furthermore, they had the opportunity to interact with notable figures such as the Consul of Vietnam, further enriching their educational experience.
